Lydia Thompson: A Biography (Forgotten Stars of the Musical Theater)
Published in Hardcover by Routledge (01 April, 2002)
Author: Kurt Ganzl
Average review score:

Expensive, but worth it
Despite the ludicrous price the publisher is charging for this book, I would recommend everyone sell some plasma and stagger out to buy it. One of the best show-biz bios I have ever read. Chatty, informative, stunningly well-researched; often funny. The author takes us not only into the life and career of a very successful (but now forgotten) star, but takes us on some fascinating side-trips as well.

A superb job--many pats on the back to Mr. Gänzl.

Magical Hexagons: Simple Steps to Dynamic Quilts

Awesome Technique, Awesome Quilts needs 10 stars!
Ok...I'll have to come back after I get the book, which I'm purchasing shortly. However, I just watched "Simply Quilts" on HGTV (Jan 2, 1:30pm program) and this was the topic and they showed this book. Her technique was fabulous!!! Go to HGTV.com and look it up under the "Simply Quilts" program and you'll see an example of her work. It's episode QLT-821 or look in their episode list. Then come back here and buy the book (they have a link back to amazon.com). The quilts look gorgeous & impossibly difficult, but she makes them incredibly easy. Her technique is very direct & straightforward. I'm dying to start a quilt and get the book. Update: It took quite a while to get the book, but it was worth the wait. Made the Swirligig Wreath the first week I had the book: IT WORKED & LOOKED GREAT!!! And I only started quilting a couple months ago. Follow her directions when triangles overlap. Cut between...it works!

Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Physical Principles and Sequence Design
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (15 June, 1999)
Authors: E. Mark Haacke, Robert W. Brown, Michael R. Thompson, and Ramesh Venkatesan
Average review score:

An excellent intro for readers with some math background
This book is a welcome introduction for readers who are comfortable with basic differential equations and vector calculus. As an applied mathematician interested in learning the fundamentals of MRI, I had grown quite frustrated with the simplified literature on one hand ("MRI for technologists", "MRI for medical people", "MRI for dummies"...) and the professional literature on the other, which is directed at people already immersed in the study of MR technology. In contrast, this book is an excellent introduction to the subject for applied mathematicians (though this may not have been the intended audience), as it makes no assumptions regarding reader's science background and thus explains thoroughly all relevant E+M, physics and signal processing. But most importantly, it does so without cutting mathematical corners. This results in a far more lucid and logical exposition than books which try to protect the reader for his/her own good.

Well, it's a French Book. Yep.
It's a French book for a French class. If you have a class that requires this book, you're gonna havta buy it anyways, so a review from me probably won't sway your decision. It's okay.

Making Memory Books & Journals by Hand
Published in Paperback by Thunder Bay Press (01 September, 2001)
Authors: Kristina Feliciano, Kristina Feliciano, Jason Thompson, and Jo Lethaby
Average review score:

A good variety
I really enjoyed flipping through the book and seeing all the colorful illustrations and designs. It comes complete with photographs and explainations. The first half section shows you different ideas you can use and then in the second half section, it shows you step-by-step instructions. It has introduction, the basics, choosing paper, materials and supplies, and tools (a good couple pages here), etc. It shows you how to make memory books, journals, and memory boxes. I plan to use the memory box idea to store my photos and make couple of journals with my girls so they can practice their cursive and even write stories in. This book comes highly recommended from a crafty person.
